C&L Dye Fluorometer

C&L Dye FluorometerThe C&L Dye Fluorometer  is an innovative multiwavelength fluorometer designed specifically for use with readily available fluorescent dyes (shown here with an Olympus IX70 microscope and without a computer). The fluorometer comprises three main components: a system controller that resides in your PC, an illumination source, and a detection system. It interfaces with your Windows 98/2000 workstation and fluorescence microscope to make multiwavelength measurements of your micro specimens a straight forward procedure. When used without a fluorescence microscope, the fluorometer can be adapted for measurement of surface fluorescence or it can be connected to an optional cuvette module.  The light source of the fluorometer can be used together with a camera and our FluorImageTM software to configure a powerful ratio imaging system.

The power of the C&L Dye Fluorometer is due to its unique, patent pending filter wheel design. The C&L Dye Fluorometer offers an unparalleled set of features at a significantly lower cost than other commercially-available fluorometers.

Key Features

  • Multiwavelength selection for both excitation and emission. Up to 8 excitation and 8 emission wavelengths.
  • Fast response time. Up to 8 excitation-emission wavelength pairs acquired at a rate of 1000 measurements per second.
  • High spectral purity and high light throughput. This is achieved by utilizing our unique filter wheel design.
  • Digital control of illumination intensity. Illumination intensity can be specified over a 50-fold range.
  • Eight analog input channels. Simultaneous acquisition of data from other instruments. The data is captured in synchrony with the fluorescence measurements.
  • Vibration-free operation. Light into and out of your microscope is via quartz light guides.
  • Low cost of ownership. Contact us for a price list. You'll be glad you did. Complete multiwavelength excitation and multiwavelength emission fluorometer systems are available for under $20K.

Interference Filters

We maintain a stock of premium quality interference filters.  Please check our page of Interference Filters for current availability and spectra.  The filters used in our instruments are custom designed to our high standards and are not available elsewhere as "stock" items.  These filters have very high wavelength specificity.  Typical transmission in the out-of-band region is > 6 OD.   If you are not familiar with the specifications of interference filters, you can read our tutorial

Illumination Sources

We offer two different illumination sources. Both sources use a xenon arc lamp and a filter wheel for wavelength selection. They can be configured with a filter wheel containing either four, 1-inch diameter filters or eight, 1/2 diameter filters. The filter wheels are easy to balance, making high speed and vibration free operation possible, and are easy to replace. Light output is via a quartz light guide. These sources are ideal for high speed multicolor illumination. Either illuminator can also be used with a chopper wheel to provide a chopped, single wavelength or broad-band light source. The light guide interfaces either directly to a Cuvette Module or your fluorescence microscope using a microscope input accessory.

    Model S48D Illumination Source

The Model S48D is a computer controlled illumination source. This source can be controlled by either the Model PC-C or Model PC-DAQ PC Controller. The controller interacts with the Illumination Source through software residing on your personal computer. The software allows the illumination source to be controlled using several operational modes. All instrument settings can be stored, so making routine measurements becomes truly routine.

    Illumination Source, Model SPLL

    Model SPLL Illumination Source

The Model SPLL is a stand-alone illumination source.  It does not require a computer for operation. This source produces a multiwavelength chopped light source, the frequency of which can be controlled either internally by the source or externally via a TTL-compatible input. An integral digital display indicates the operating speed of the source. The external input is available to synchronize the light source to an external device, such as a video camera or data acquisition system. The phase relation between the external input and chopped light can be adjusted over 351 degrees in 0.7 degree step increments in a manner that is independent of the chopped light frequency.

Vacu-CellTM Incubation Chambers

Model D48 Detector Module

C&L introduces the Vacu-CellTM line of cell incubation chambers. The unique design holds the coverslip or other surface by one side only, providing major advantages over cell chambers made by others.

The coverslip or slide surface is held securely in place by application of a vacuum.  Dual o-rings isolate the vacuum from the area of the coverslip under study and securely hold the coverslip in place.

Several configurations are available, including this laminar flow chamber, a round perfusion chamber and an open top design.

Components for TIRF

Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF) is a powerful fluorescence technique that can be applied to a variety of analytical applications.  TIRF occurs when excitation energy is transmitted through a medium by total internal reflection.  This generates an thin evanescent energy layer that can excite fluorescent probes in close proximity to the surface of the medium.  We have TIRF cells containing a flow chamber for introduction of your samples to the TIRF surface.  With chemically-modified surfaces, this technique can be used for molecular screening and assessment of binding affinities.  TIRF is a powerful technique to assess protein-protein interacts.  Please contact us for more details.
